RE: What did you add to your MH to make RV'ing easier for you?

For my extra-added convienience,I added : 500w. 115 v. Baseboard electric heaters for the rear bedroom/cabover bed/under the dining room table ; a 5 k.w. 240 v. Portable forced-air Heater for cold weather camping at C.G.'s (has a 50 amp. plug and seperate cord for easy hookup) ; 400 w. Inverter to watch the Bunk TV and/or the added rear bedroom 15" LCD TV while Dry Camping, Roof mounted antennae for the Laptop Computer giving me far better reception, added a new kitchen 115 v. wall outlet, use of a thick queen size Comforter to seperate the driver cab from the coach (keeps coach ALOT warmer/cooler) and offers great privacy , added 2 extra refillable 20 lb. propane tanks in the rear cargo area with electronic propane leak detector overhead (for extended dry camping) -- tied it into the main coach propane line with shutoff valve , tinted driver and passenger windows, added an inside indicator light for the propane water heater to show when the water has heated up, installed an outside temp/engine oil temp/auto trans fluid temp Monitoring Gauges on the drivers side , installed a remote refrigerator temp monitoring guage , moved the drivers seat back cause im 6'3" tall, installed a Tape Player with 100 amp Reciever with remote speakers in the Cab Over, added a compressor crankcase heater and insulated the a/c compressor for quieter operation , sealed off the sides and bottom of the radiator/condensor so more air goes thru, added a sheetmetal deflector under the engine so incoming air is diverted to the rear of the Dog House to keep the rear of the engine cooler, and modified the engine intake/filter housing so it pulls in warm engine heat giving me better gas mileage in cold weather (usually 1-1.5 mpg increase going 60 mph). Regards.

RE: Does/Has anyone owned a PACE brand enclosed cargo Trailer ?

Remember when building stuff like that they also consider weight.  You could line the thing with 1" plywood and it would seen sturdy, but that's also a lot of extra weight to carry around all the time.I reckon so. But, when you consider the payload on the Trailer I bought is 2,000 lbs , whats another 60 lbs. in 1/2" plywood for the walls ? I can see me poking a hole in the thin Luan wall boards. Then use it until you poke holes in the Luan and then replace it with something else. Problem solved. No. Im going to add plywood walls before it looks like .44 magnum hollow point hit it :)

Does/Has anyone owned a PACE brand enclosed cargo Trailer ?

This morning, i purchased a Pace Outback model, 6x12' cargo Trailer with side door and Swing back door. It is advertised as 'an entry level cargo trailer' by the Mfgr and looking at the rather flimsy Luan boards for walls...I can understand why they call it that. Im just wondering how reliable yours has been, any troubles/what troubles , etc ??? I hope im not going to be sorry i didnt invest another $800 and get something much more substantial. Im going to pull it using my 26' Class C. Motorhome and i might have a 1,000 lb. payload in it. Thanks.

RE: How To Tap Power Directly Off Onan Generator, By-Pass the RV

Dont know the answer to your questions Ron, but, im most interested to learn also. Its a spendid idea ... even if you can only get 120 v. / 30 amp. power to power some important things in your house like the Fridge, lights, etc... If nothing else, maybe you could install a Switch of some sort right at the main breaker of the Coach Electric Panel whereby you would shut off the main breaker of the Coach Panel and open another switch to allow Generator power to flow thru a power cord into your house .

RE: Has anyone installed permanent Electric Baseboard Heaters ?

I didn't do any thing with the origional hardwired 30A electric cord. What I did was add a second 20A electrical cord that feeds two outlets I installed in my RV. The outlets are totally separate from the origional RV electrical stsyem. So I now have a 30A service and a totally separate 20A service. Just think of a permanently installed extension cord. This new 20A cord coils into the storage compartment along with the origional 30A cord. Gotcha ! Thats pretty handy and a good idea.

RE: Has anyone installed permanent Electric Baseboard Heaters ?

Just got done installing the electric baseboard heaters. I installed them permanently to the walls , so theres no chance of them being thrown around while travelling. I like your idea of having a couple of added outlets ran off of the Main Electric Cord BEFORE the Coaches Breaker Panel and using the additional outlet on the CG Service Pole. How exactly did you tap off of the Main Cord ? Thanks, David.

RE: Has anyone installed permanent Electric Baseboard Heaters ?

I don't see where you would have a problem, as long as you make sure that you have the allowable clearances. You mentioned the clearance on the radiant heater, so I see you are keeping that in mind. Are you thinking of running new wire for these, or just plug into existing outlets? I guess you should be OK with either way, though you will lose the outlets if you use them. You may also be limited in your use of the microwave if you have them on, but even that might be alright. I've got one of those radiator type oil filled heaters (700 & 1700 Watt) that I got from Walmart. It sits in the middle of the room, and I use it at home (when parked) to supplement the LP heater, and just in case the furnace doesn't come on when it's a bit too cold out....a fixed system would probably be better. Im just going to plug in the baseboard heater into a coach outlet since the 500 w. heater only pulls 4.2 amps at 120 v. The outlets are on 15 amp breakers that im plugging into. Thanks everyone for the info.

Has anyone installed permanent Electric Baseboard Heaters ?

I was thinking of installing a few QMark Brand Electric Baseboard Heaters in my 26' long Coachman Freedom Express Class C. as I camp well into the cold weather at CG's with electric hookup or stay with friends behind their house plugged in . I have a ducted 16,000 btu Factory Propane force air Heater but my legs and feet get chilled even when its running...plus... I figure I could save a bit on my propane usage when hooked up to electric. Im thinking of getting 3 : 500 w. Baseboard Heaters --- one for the bedroom, one for the dining room, and one for the over the cab Bunk . Has anyone installed these and did you notice a comfort level improvement ? I had thought about a Cove (high on the wall) Radiant Heater but you need a minimum of 6 foot between Heater and floor which i dont have. Thanks, David.

RE: Gas Milage Mods??

Is there any chip, k&N filter or air intake or other mods out there to help improve gas milage on a 1993 ford class c motor home? It is the 7.5 engine... REPLY: Ive had good success disconnecting the cold air intake hose on my Chevy 5.0 WorkVan model 1500 and allowing it to take in warmer engine bay air. The computer senses the temp. increase of the air and adjusts the fuel/air mixture leaner. I picked up an additional 1.5 mpg doing this. Im going to try it on my RV which has a Chevy 6.0 litre engine.

RE: Mice are eating my RV engine wires. What have you done ?

I just picked up a small bottle of peppermint oil from my local Health Food Store. Cost $5.99 and is very concentrated. Smell is powerful and im going to give it a try under the RV and in the RV engine compartment by putting some of the peppermint oil on a tiny rag in a few spots . Even the lady at the Counter knew about using peppermint oil for this purpose.

RE: Mice are eating my RV engine wires. What have you done ?

You can buy a small electronic gadget which plugs into an electrical outlet. It need to be positioned directly facing the RV, mice don't like the sound waves of it and will not come near your RV. A human ear cannot detect the sound. But mice hate it. I had a problem with mice in my garage and getting into my cars. Not any more. This gadget works, I bought it a a Home Hardware store. Costs less than 10 dollars. Try it. REPLY: Please look at yours and tell me the exact name of it, because some of them dont work . Please post for all of us . Thanks. (It could be squirrels that are eating my wires as i have alot of them around)

Mice are eating my RV engine wires. What have you done ?

My Class C. has to sit outside on a concrete pad i had poured and a mouse ate thru some wires and caused the engine check light to stay on. Cost me $200 for the repair at the Chevy Dealer . What have you done to prevent this if your RV sits outside ? Do u think wrapping wires with aluminum foil tape would help ? Im sure moth balls would help but each time i move the RV they are going to blow off . Need suggestions . Thanks. David.
